Convention Info + Registration Link

The 101st Texas-Oklahoma Kiwanis Convention can be summed up in 3 words: easy, easy easy. First, Denton is an easy destination. We’re located at the intersection of I-35E, I-35W, and US380, or as we call it here in Denton, University Drive. Chances are you’ve already been to Denton. We are home to the University of North Texas, Texas Woman’s University, Peterbilt Trucks and countless other companies. During World War 2, thousands of pilots were trained in Denton.

Come back and see what we’ve been up to. Our brand new Convention Center is located in the Embassy Suites hotel right on I-35. All convention activities will take place in the hotel/convention center. You could park your car on Thursday August 1 and not get back in it until check out Sunday August 4. Oh, and parking is free of charge while you’re here.

Our hotel convention rate is $129.00 per room per night and includes a cook to order breakfast each morning as well as a manager’s reception every evening. Like I said, easy.

Our Spouse’s Day Out will be educational and fun. We will leave the Embassy Hotel Lobby and travel by luxury coach to a working horse ranch. Denton County is recognized worldwide as one of the best places to breed and raise top quality quarter horses. This tour will give you and up close look why Denton County horses are unmatched and our facilities are the destination of top breeders in the equestrian industry.

After our visit at the horse ranch, we will travel to the campus of Texas Woman’s University. Here at TWU is the permanent collection of the First Ladies of Texas Inaugural Gowns. Texas’ Governor’s wives wore these breath-taking gowns on the first day of their term in office.

Finally, we conclude our tour around Denton County on our historic Downtown Square. Our wonderful courthouse was completed in 1894. It has been restored to its original specifications and is recognized as a historic site by the Texas historical Society. It has been the backdrop of countless photos.

Make your reservations for this visit around Denton County. Wear comfortable shoes. The coach is air conditioned as well as the TWU Library and the restaurant on the Square. Only parts of the horse ranch will be air conditioned.

While we all come to Convention to learn more about how we can learn more about Kiwanis and provide more service to our communities, there is nothing wrong about having a little fun as well. This year, the T-O Convention will rocket you back to the 50 and 60s. Through special arrangement with Wolfman Jack, we will have with us Disc Jockey Man Martin from the Wichita Falls Area. Mad Martin has been spinning records throughout Texas and Oklahoma for over 40 years and was elected to the Disc Jockey Hall of Fame in Las Vegas. Along with Mad Martin, to help set the mood, we will have on hand 2 classic Chevy’s, a ’57 and a ’58. Now, while you can’t take your date driving in these classic cars, you can stand beside them in your leather jacket and poodle skirt (ladies only in the poodle skirt, please) and get your picture taken and groove to the music of your favorite 50 and 60 hits. Again, all under 1 roof here at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Denton Convention Center.

We encourage all clubs to register 100% to lower the cost of coming to the T-O Convention.  Clubs with less than 25 members can register 100% for $400.  Clubs with between 26 and 49 members can register 100% for $600.  And Clubs with over 50 members can register 100% for $600.  Let’s do some Kiwanis math.  If your Club has 25 members or less, and 6 members are coming, it’s cheaper to register 100%. If your Club has 26 to 49 members, and 9 members are coming, it’s cheaper to register 100%. And if your Club has 50 members or more, and you have 9 members coming, it’s cheaper to register 100%.  Please keep in mind, ALL CONVENTION ACTIVITIES REQUIRE MEMBER REGISTRATION.

The District PLGA is sponsoring the Friday morning breakfast at the Embassy Suites.

PLGA Purpose:
The PLGA provides support and assist the Texas-Oklahoma District leadership and Kiwanis International in promoting membership growth and service programs compatible with Kiwanis ideals and objectives. To that effect, at the Breakfast Meeting a small business meeting will be presented. In addition we will be presenting the Extra Mile Award, for the Kiwanian that has gone beyond the normal service for that community. The Most Valuable Lt. Governor Award from Governor Patrick’s year as governor, and Scholarship awards.
