Saturday Inspiration Keynote Speaker Byron Williams – Hosted by the Past Lt. Governor’s Association

Byron Williams is a Texarkana native whose life has been shaped by football, faith, and a deep commitment to giving back. A former NFL wide receiver, Byron turned his success on the field into a lifelong mission to serve young people and strengthen communities. His journey from a local standout to a professional athlete and trusted mentor reflects perseverance, purpose, and a belief in using one’s platform to uplift others.

As the founder of the Best Wishes Foundation, Byron uses sports as a bridge to mentorship, health awareness, and character development. The foundation exists to help young people overcome barriers that often keep them from participating in sports, whether that means providing equipment, transportation, or access to safe places to play. Through football minicamps, school visits, and partnerships with organizations that share the same values, Byron encourages students to set goals, stay in school, and believe in their potential. The foundation also advocates for sports-related health and wellness, supporting under-resourced youth and aging athletes who need access to quality healthcare and guidance.

Byron’s impact extends well beyond the field. He has been widely respected for his leadership and service, serving multiple terms as president of the NFL Players Association Dallas-Fort Worth chapter, as well as on the NFLPA board and executive committees. His work with schools, prison outreach programs, and community sports initiatives has earned him numerous local honors and frequent invitations to speak, mentor, and serve as an ambassador for youth development.

Before all of that, Byron built a 12-year professional football career after being drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 1983. He played for several NFL teams, including the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, and Detroit Lions, along with multiple teams in the Canadian Football League and other professional leagues. Known for his speed and big-play ability, Byron now channels those experiences into coaching and mentoring, teaching young athletes not just how to compete but how to approach life with discipline, resilience, and purpose.
